Getting started

Installation Guide

Follow these steps to install GeoAddIn and start building maps in PowerPoint.

Windows: 7 SP1 · 8.1 · 10 · 11 · Server 2012 R2+ PowerPoint: 2010 – 2021 or Microsoft 365 (desktop) .NET: Framework 4.8 (installed automatically if missing) Architecture: 32-bit & 64-bit both supported
1

Download the installer package

Check your inbox for the email from GeoAddIn. Click the Download GeoAddIn Beta button to download a ZIP file containing the full installer package.

2

Extract the ZIP file

Right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All… Save the extracted folder somewhere permanent (e.g. your Documents folder). Do not move or delete individual files from inside the folder — the installer needs all of them to be present.

3

Run setup.exe

Open the extracted folder and double-click setup.exe. The setup wizard will install any missing prerequisites (including .NET Framework 4.8) and then install GeoAddIn.

4

Find the GeoAddIn tab in the ribbon

Once installed, a Geo tab will appear in the PowerPoint ribbon. Click it to open the task pane and start building your first map.

You're all set!

Troubleshooting

I don't see the GeoAddIn tab after installation.

Go to File → Options → Add-ins. At the bottom, set Manage to COM Add-ins and click Go…. Make sure GeoAddIn is checked. If it is not listed, re-run setup.exe.

PowerPoint says the add-in is disabled.

Go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Add-ins and uncheck Require Application Add-ins to be signed by a Trusted Publisher, then restart PowerPoint.

The installer asks me to install .NET Framework 4.8.

Allow the installation — .NET Framework 4.8 is a free Microsoft component required by GeoAddIn. Your computer may need to restart before setup continues.

I moved the extracted folder after installation and GeoAddIn stopped working.

The ClickOnce installer references files relative to their original location. Move the folder back, or re-run setup.exe from the new location.
